Don’t Be Foolish

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

Matthew 25:1-5 NKJV

A few weeks ago I had a dream that I was getting ready to go to a wedding. I was in a room with many people including my husband and we were all getting ready. The clothes we were wearing were not dresses and suits, but special robe-like garments. I remember there was a lot of confusion amongst the guests because no one knew what time the wedding started. We all knew that there was going to be a wedding soon, later that day but just did not know the time. I remember hearing someone say who has a wedding with out a start time? Then I could hear people trying to figure out how to get in touch with the bride to get the time. Even though I was confused myself, I still kept getting ready because I could feel it in my heart that there was going to be a wedding soon. After awhile, someone asked me to go run an errand to get “Jesus Post Its.” No clue as to what that could possibly be, but I went anyway because it seemed important. I got in my car and drove to this random building, got out and ended up in this extremely long line of people. Panic and anxiety filled my heart because I thought I was going to miss the wedding. Then I started to get angry because I did not want to go, but I allowed someone to convince me to go get these post its. I even woke up feeling upset.

When I woke up, I was reminded about the parable of the wise and foolish virgins. These virgins had no idea what time the bridegroom was coming but the wise virgins were prepared with their lamps and oil when he arrived and got to go into the wedding. While the foolish virgins had to run back to get oil for their lamps and by the time they came back it was too late they could not enter. Just like in my dream we did not know what time the wedding was going to start, we just knew it was soon and we needed to get prepared. I believe what the Lord was trying to tell me that as believers in Christ we all know that He is coming back soon but we spend so much time trying to figure out when. We end up completely missing the point. Jesus Himself put it in His Word that no one knows the day or hour, but the point is to be prepared at all times because we do not know the day or hour. We conjecture so much amongst ourselves about dates and times (as I have noticed on YouTube videos) that we allow ourselves to go off on foolish trails to get “Jesus Post Its” like in my dream.

The Lord wants us to use this time to get ourselves prepared, and our families prepared. If you are a follower of Christ then you know in your heart that He is coming soon and our souls long to be in his presence. Some of us will be with Him sooner than others. He gave us many signs to look for prior to His return and many things have to happen first. When Jesus returns at the appointed time will we hi-five each other and say “I told you so,” or will we be thankful and Praise God we were ready and not foolish.
